Processing Information
Munson A. Kwok donated this collection to the CHSSC. The Chinese American Citizens Alliance collection bolsters the CHSSC Archive’s mission to preserve the history of Chinese Americans in Southern California and offers a valuable resource to future researchers and scholars interested in Chinese American history more broadly or in this particular organization.
The CACA collection was processed primarily by Michaela Telfer, a UCLA student volunteer, during which the materials were inventoried, arranged, rehoused, and documented in ArchivesSpace. Paper materials were rehoused in acid-free folders and an archival, acid-free Hollinger box. As much as possible, paper materials were kept in their original envelopes to preserve their original context. If paper materials needed to be removed from original envelopes for preservation reasons, envelopes with any important contextual information were retained with their previous contents. Small photographs were rehoused in an archival photo box unless it was important to keep them with paper materials to preserve their original context. Large photographs were rehoused in archival sleeves and arranged into the appropriate folder with related paper materials. Staples and paper clips were not removed from paper-based materials to avoid further physical damage from the removal process and for the sake of time but paper clips were removed from photographs to avoid future deterioration. Duplicate paper materials were deaccessioned while duplicate photographs were retained. Objects were arranged by topic or document type. For documents that could fit in more than one subseries or folder, cross references have been added to the container list and finding aid.
