This series contains various correspondences which Dr. Nash wrote (and received) for research purposes throughout the writing of his dissertation. These were usually in the form of letters written to organizations or other historical societies requesting information about, for example, Chinese shrimp fisheries in a certain locality, area, city, or county in California. It also includes correspondence regarding Chinese junks and marine vessels, Chinatowns, and Chinese fishing camps.

This series comprises physical artifacts and shards collected during the course of Robert Nash's research on Chinese fishing industry in California, and are derived from the original sites of 1880s Chinese shrimp camps, which were located in the San Pablo Bay area near San Francisco
