Abstract The Chinese Historical Society of Southern California (CHSSC) and the UCLA Asian Studies Center (AASC) conducted the Southern California Chinese American Oral History Project from 1978 to 1984. This series comprises Robert A. Nash's writings on Chinese shrimp/abalone fisheries, fishing camps, and Chinese nautical vessels (sampans, junks, .etc) in California in the 1880s. There are about including his final doctoral dissertation, his publications in scholarly journals (e.g., Journal of the Nautical Research Guild, Chinese Historical Society of America, East West, etc.), and papers written in the course of his PhD studies.
