Rare Book Collection

Abstract

The Rare Book Collection is a compiled collection primarily consisting of Chinese language texts from the twentieth century. The books include Chinese-published books as well as handmade booklets for personal study and use. The majority of the books are educational, covering Chinese language, philosophy, and medicine. The rest of the books include personal and business records, immmigration coaching books, and accounts relations between China and the United States.

Robert A. Nash Collection

Abstract Robert Nash was a PhD student at the University of California, Los Angeles conducting research on Chinese fisheries and related industries in the 19th century. Shortly after he earned his doctorate in 1973, Nash died and left his papers to the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California. Susan G. Dickson Collection

Abstract In 2005, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) unearthed a Potters Cemetery when widening the street during construction of the Gold light rail line in East Los Angeles. Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials owned by Dr. Tom Wing between the 1920s and 1980s, which were exhibited by the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California. It contains miscellaneous vintage tape recorders, acupuncture devices, a model car, a printed exhibit tour guide, posters on foam board, and cosmetology instruments. The collection may have previously been known as the Disaster Red Cross Radio Collection.
